Dore

The World of Dore
By: Rachel

Over fifty centuries ago, it is said that life became unsustainable on Earth. It was the year 8975323887092. People were panicking. The end was very near. Great scientists and all the worlds leaders got together to try and figure out a way to save the inhabitants of our Earth, but to no avail. There was nothing they could do. They were going to die. People everywhere said farewell to their loved ones and tried to live their last few weeks on Earth meaningfully. One of these people was twenty year old Angeline Dorez. Angeline lived in a poorer part of England, with very few family members still living. No one knows how it happened, but on April 10th 8975323887092, Angeline found a magical portal leading to another world; one that was identical to Earth but in a smaller version. It was the perfect place to live. There was still hope left.

Twenty million people, billions of supplies, and over seventy million animals from all over the Earth were brought into the magical world, led by Angeline. Together they created a new planet, one that was even greater than the Earth itself. The portal slowly sealed itself shut. Angeline Dorez became queen of the planet, which she named Dore, after her name. She was the first of a long line of descendants that ruled all of Dore. No one knows what happened to the people still left on Earth. Most say that they are all dead, that Dore was the only hope left; though some people still argue that their must have been other portals, that the rest of the people would all be in other worlds like Dore. Someday they would all meet again. But that was over five thousand years ago. What has happened to Dore today?

Today Dore is ruled by King Stephen Dorez and Queen Ellen Dorez. Dore is a strange universe. It has changed much since the time of Queen Angeline. It has about 25 million citizens today, and is just about larger than the continent of Australia. Night and day still depends on which side of the planet you’re on; and humans still look like humans. Many species of animals from earth still thrive happily in Dore, including various pets and wild creatures, such as the tiger, and the oceans of Dore are just as vast as on Earth. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t changed.

The beliefs of the Dorians [people who live in Dore] mostly circulate around chickens, cows and cheese. Most of the Dorians believe that chickens, which are the most plentiful creatures in all of Dore, will one day rule the world. Others believe that cows, which are second most plentiful, will one day reign. These opinions affect the current kings and queens, who always try very hard to stay above the ranks of chickens and cows. But by far the biggest and most important belief in all of Dore is in cheese. The citizens of Dore love and adore cheese more than anything. One of the three types of churches in Dore is The National Cheese Church, which is based on the worshiping, studying, eating and discussing of cheese. The other two types of churches are the Protest to Chickens Church, occupied by the Dorians who despise chickens and worships cows; and the Obedient to Chickens Church, which, as you might have already guessed, is for chicken lovers. The schools in Dore are basically the same, with Cow Believers schools that focuses mainly on cows and cheese; the Chicken Lovers schools, which focuses on chickens and cheese; and the Cheese Worshipers schools that learn about cheese and chickens and/or cows. The other subjects learned in school are math, reading, writing, and art, which are all taught with the slight mentioning of chickens, cows or cheese.

Some of the many strange laws in Dore are also based on chickens, cows and cheese, such as the law: Children must sing the Chicken Anthem in school, no matter which type of school they attend [this is often done rudely by the students of Cow Believers schools]; and cheese must be treated like royalty. Some of the other laws are that no one may take off their socks after five o’clock, villains must eat fresh baked bread as a punishment [Dorians loathe fresh baked bread], and eating chicken [and beef in some areas] is illegal. Another law is that it is highly illegal to keep or hold captive a chicken or a cow. Chickens and cows are allowed to walk freely though Dore, and any abuse or harm to them whatsoever is illegal and will result in a fine of 500 Celios and up. Harming a chicken usually results in a bigger fine than a cow, since chickens are more widely worshiped and respected.

But that isn’t all. There are still many other quite absurd rules/laws in Dore, and numerous strange beliefs, too. Here are some if you don’t believe me:

Dorians believe that smelling horse farts can make your feet bigger [the Horse Fart in a Bottle now only $9.99]; that stars are actually fireflies; and that yodeling causes ones ears to fall off. [Yodeling of any kind is greatly banned in Dore. Anyone caught yodeling must eat ten loaves of fresh baked bread.]

Despite all the weirdness, though, Dore is actually a great place to live. I mean, have you ever heard some of the amazing singers in Dore? Or the great artists? Dore is home to many amazing talents, such as famous singers, artists, actors, and athletes. Larry Larrie, a famous young artist, currently finished painting such a mouth watering picture of Parmesan cheese that it got hung up in the DPPAG [Dorians Prided Paintings Art Gallery].
Mme. Curry’s stunning watercolor picture of a chicken being stomped to death by a cow was so amazing that it got turned into the official Cow Believer’s picture, while Miss Dora Zelch was later hired to draw a picture of a cow being stomped to death by a chicken for the Chicken Lovers. What fine artists!
Some of the most famous musicians of Dore are Angelina Rockwood, featuring her new album, Rock-a-lina, Tiffany Hale’s new song ‘Scream’, the ever-so-famous boy band Compaq Brass, and Kevin Rolin with his song devoted to cheese, chickens and cows, called the Three C’s, a popular theme song for all three groups. And at the top of the charts, the very best of all of Dore, is, or course, Mimi C., who sang the number 1 hit record, Street Dawg.

A couple of the hit TV shows in Dore are ‘You, Me, and Cheese’, ‘Beverly Hills Chicken’, and, for a non-cheese/chicken/cow show, ‘The Life of Annie Robyn’, acted by famous actors Bill Stein, Randy Jonette, and Melody Cline.

But the thing Dore values the most is sports. The most popular sports in Dore are the very violent Chicken and Cow tag, swimming, and all the sports that involve a cheese ball. The most well-loved teams are the Cheddars, the Beefs, and the Cluckers, while some favorite athletes of all time are Mont Henrie Vickson, Laurie Anis, and Dave Ronald.
To date, only 139 million authors have ever published a book in Dore in all the five thousand years, which is quite strange, since all Dorian schools have required extended writing programs and extra curricular writing assignments. A few of the most famous authors are Becky Wilders and her book, the ‘Encyclopedia of Cheese’, and Mr. Rook and his book ‘The Mystery of Mr. Cluck and the Missing Cheese’.

Now, on to another subject. I’m sure you’re curious about how Dore protects itself from warring countries. Does it have armies? Warriors? Millions of artilleries or hidden passages? Nope. Since Dore is the world, the only enemy it has to fight is occasionally when the chicken folks and the cow folks get into a battle. In that case, Dore is armed with many food launchers filled with hot dogs and chocolate milk to settle the disagreement.

Oh, and just in case you didn’t know, Dorians communicate through talking, sign language, chicken and cow languages, literature, and many other ways. That much they haven’t changed from when they lived on Earth.

Remember how one of the laws in Dore is that eating chicken and sometimes beef is forbidden? Some of the foods that you can eat in Dore are just about anything you can eat on Earth, with the exception of the Giguyana fruit and Pampo leaf that only grows in Dore. The all time favorite food in Dore is, you guessed it… Cheese, of course! Since Dorians celebrate cheese, it’s obvious that they eat it, too. Cheese is free in Dore, and is sent to everyone via the cheese cargo, a train that pulls loads of cheese all over Dore just for the citizens. The cheese cargo delivers ever month, and around 30 million pounds is given out each time! And just how does Dore get so much cheese? Simple- in Dore, cheese grows on many types of trees and other forms of plantation in the Cheese Forest, a forest that grows its own personal supply of cheese. The forest is very small, only four acres long, but it grows enough cheese [roughly 90 million per acre] to last all year. All other types of food are grown or produced in ways just like what was done on Earth. There are restaurants in Dore like on Earth, but over one fifth of the restaurants are cheese restaurants, featuring nothing but different types and styles of cheese. That means that just about every fifth restaurant you see in a line of restaurants down the street would be a cheese restaurant. Wow! Talk about a large variety.

Otherwise, life on Dore is a lot like life on Earth. There are the same types of jobs and housing, and the same types of medical and social programs. Some jobs may be a bit different then on Earth because of all the different needs and laws in Dore, but the differences are small and unimportant. In Dore, there are hospitals and zoos and all the places there were on Earth.

Probably one of the most important social programs besides programs based on cheese, chicken and cows in Dore are the Sock Sewing Classes. Everyone in Dore must attend Sock Sewing Class, whether they learn it at school, at church, or at outside classes. Sewing socks are of vital importance in Dore, mostly because of rule #7: No person may take off there socks after five o’clock PM. Therefore, socks are one of the most important things to have in Dore, and like cheese, it is delivered once every month on a separate train. Over 40 million socks are distributed each month [two to every person], and the socks are either made in special working factories or by members of the Sock Sewing Club; residents of Sockby Homing Facility; Sockby Retirement Home; and prisoners during jail sentences.

The official Dorian currency is Celios: Gold colored coins with a fancy letter D on the front and a picture of Cheddar Cheese on the back, forged from copper. Though most Dorians use Celios, a lot of the poorer citizens that live in more rural places [such as farmers and miners] use food and livestock to barter with. Cheese is most often used.

The Five Rights is one of the most important documents in all of Dore. It lists the five most important rights a Dorian should have.

1. The Right to Live
2. The Right to Eat, Own, Believe in and Associate with Cheese
3. The Right to Have Fun
4. The Right to an Education
5. The Right to Freedom of Choice and Belief in Either Cows or Chickens

Even though Dore might seem like a free country, it is highly ruled by Monarchy. The King and Queen control all of Dore, and the two firmest regulations that all Dorians must study and belief in are cheese and either chickens or cows. Other then that, the King and Queen doesn’t really play a major role in the care of Dore, though they still control everything in Dore.

Dore is an interesting world, different yet similar to Earth. Would you want to live in Dore, with its insane rules and beliefs, and its funny way of doing things? Or would you see Dore as a fun and exciting place to be? Whatever your opinion is, it is clear that Dore is an extraordinary place. Who knows how long humans will strive in it? One thing is for sure; we are lucky to have found such a great home. It might not be as perfect as Earth by a long stretch, but it definitely lives up to the expectations that us humans deserve.
