This is a story dedicated to a very special kitten friend of mine. I will remember her forever, even though she is now somewhere else... somewhere far away from this earth.
Here's to hoping she is happy... say hi to Precious for me...
My two kitty friends in heaven...

Sweet and Small Angel
Samantha brushed her long blond hair out of her face and looked up at the sky. It was dark and grey, just like the day before, and the day before that, and all the days before today. For as long as she could remember, all the days had been dark and cold, filled to the brim with cold, sad sorrow and hate and misery. Samantha had never had a happy day in her life, she did not know how happiness felt like, she was all alone in this cruel world. Samantha had no one. Her parents had been cold and cruel to her, from the day she was born till the day they had died three years ago. Samantha now lived in an orphanage, a dark and gloomy old orphanage that didn't have enough money to buy a toothpick, much less anything a normal kid had. And at school it was just as bad. She was the only one in town to have blond hair, and everyone at school was cruel to her because of it. And today had been worse. She had lost every bit of happiness in her heart. Samantha just couldn't escape it all, though she wished that she could every night. And as Samantha hurried away towards her favorite place in the world, a small pond in a quiet little park, she wondered how she would ever survive in this cold, cruel world.
Samantha finally sank down onto the moist grass next to the small pond. Tired and miserable, she finally couldn't take it anymore. Tears streamed down her thin, pale face as she cried her heart out, wishing that everything was different. Wishing that she could be happy. She closed her eyes and just sat there, listening to the bitter silence. Suddenly, the silence was broken but a tiny, sweet little mew. Samantha stiffened, but didn't open her eyes. There was another mew, then something gently touched her leg. Samantha slowly opened her eyes. Sitting there was a tiny cat with grey and black striped fur and sweet little hazel eyes. It was definitely an adult cat, but it was only slightly bigger than a kitten. It looked thin and weak, and as soon as it saw that Samantha had finally opened her eyes, it lay down on it's side with its little tummy facing Samantha. Its stomach was wriggling around as though there were millions of worms inside, but Samantha didn't feel grossed out at all. Instead she felt worried and scared for the little cat. It looked like such an angel, but it also looked very ill. It was way too small, which could mean that it was undernourished, and it looked like there was something wrong with her by the way her stomach was wiggling. But the thing that made Samantha want to cry was the sad, scared look in the little cat's eyes, a look similar to the one Samantha had had all her life. The cat, who Samantha could see was a girl, just lay there gazing at Samantha, as though she was begging Samantha to help her. But Samantha couldn't. She would have to go back to the orphanage soon, and she didn't even have a penny to herself. If she fed this cat even the tiniest bit of food, she would starve, sense the orphanage gave them so little food. Samantha looked at the little cat again, then down at her watch. It was time to go...home, if she could call it that. She stood up and hurried away, looking back at the little cat as she went. It was still gazing at her with those sad little eyes, and Samantha almost thought she saw a little tear dripping down the little cats face. Samantha quickly turned around and, as she ran down the path towards the orphanage, screamed, "Goodbye little cat, please don't be sick, goodbye forever!" Later, as she sat all alone in the dark on her stiff mattress bed, she thought of the little cat and felt a tear drip down her face.
It was very, very dark, and an eerie, ghostly mewing filled Samantha's ears. Samantha screamed and closed her eyes, wishing for it all to go away, but instead she saw a little shadow slightly bigger than a baby kitten standing a few feet away from her. It was too dark to see what it was. Suddenly it stepped forward a step, and now Samantha could see that it was the little cat she had seen at the pond that day. But somehow it looked different, more foggy and distant... and in a flash Samantha saw the awful truth. It was dead! This was a ghost she was looking at, the little cat was dead...
Samantha woke up, covered from head to toe in sweat. She had been dreaming... it was only a dream... but what if it was true? What if the little cat had died? What if, What if, WHAT IF???!!! Samantha sighed. What was wrong with her? It was just a dream. But Samantha knew that she wouldn't believe that unless she sees the little cat, alive and well. I'll go see it tomorrow, Samantha thought, but right now I gotta go back to sleep. Samantha sighed and closed her eyes, trying to think of SOMETHING happy... and before she knew it she was fast asleep again.
